Elimination Criteria

Filter out products that don't meet minimum requirements before ranking.

Min Size Availability % 0% to 100%

Excludes products that don't have enough size options available in stock.

How it works

If you set this to 50%, a product must have at least 50% of its size variants in stock to be included. Example: A shirt with 5 sizes would need at least 3 sizes in stock.

When to use

  • Fashion and apparel stores: Ensure customers can find their size
  • High size variety: When you have products with many size options
  • Reduce customer frustration: Avoid showing products where most sizes are sold out

Recommended values

0% = No size filtering (all products included)
30-50% = Moderate filtering (good for most fashion stores)
70-100% = Strict filtering (only show products with most sizes available)
Max Age in Days 0 to 365 days

Excludes products that have been in your store for longer than a specified number of days.

How it works

Counts from the date the product was first added to your Shopify store. If you set this to 60 days, any product older than 60 days will be filtered out.

When to use

  • Promote fresh inventory: Show only recently added items
  • Seasonal collections: Feature products from the current season only
  • Clear old stock: Create a 'New Arrivals' collection automatically
  • Test new products: Focus on recently launched items

Recommended values

365 = Include all products (no age filtering)
90 = Show products from the last 3 months
60 = Show products from the last 2 months
30 = Show only products from the last month
14-21 = 'New Arrivals' collections
Min Inv Cover in Days 0 to 365 days

Excludes products that don't have enough inventory to last a minimum number of days based on current sales velocity.

How it works

Calculates how many days of stock you have based on recent sales. Example: If a product sells 10 units/day and you have 100 units in stock, that's 10 days of inventory cover.

When to use

  • Prevent stockouts: Only promote products you can keep in stock
  • Avoid disappointment: Don't feature items that might sell out quickly
  • Inventory planning: Focus on products with healthy stock levels
  • Campaign planning: Ensure featured products can support marketing pushes

Recommended values

0 = No inventory filtering (show all products)
14-30 = Show products with at least 2-4 weeks of stock
45-60 = Show only well-stocked products (conservative)
7 = Minimum threshold to avoid immediate stockouts

Note: Requires sales history data to calculate sales velocity. New products without sales history may be excluded.

Product Ranking Weights

Control which factors are most important when deciding product order. All weights must sum to exactly 100 points.

Smart Rebalancing: When you change one weight, the system automatically adjusts it to maintain a total of 100 points.

New 0.0 to 100.0 points

How recently the product was added to your store.

How it works

Products added recently get higher scores. The weight determines how much newness affects the final ranking.

When to increase

  • Fashion and trend-driven products: Keep collections fresh
  • New product launches: Automatically promote new arrivals
  • Seasonal updates: Surface current season products first
  • Testing phase: Give new products visibility to gather data

When to decrease

  • Proven bestsellers matter more: Focus on what sells
  • Classic/evergreen products: Newness isn't relevant
  • Mature product lines: Older products have established patterns

Recommended values

5-10 = Low importance (classic/evergreen collections)
15-25 = Moderate importance (balanced approach)
30-40 = High importance (trend-focused, fast fashion)
High Revenue 0.0 to 100.0 points

How much total revenue each product has generated.

How it works

Products that have sold more dollars get higher scores. Based on total cumulative revenue over product lifetime.

When to increase

  • Maximize sales: Promote proven money-makers
  • Holiday seasons: Feature bestsellers for high-traffic periods
  • Business goals focused on revenue: When total sales dollars are the priority
  • Proven inventory: Stick with what works

When to decrease

  • Product diversity: Avoid showing the same top sellers repeatedly
  • New product introduction: Give newcomers a chance
  • Niche markets: Revenue might not reflect product quality
  • Inventory clearance: Need to move specific items

Recommended values

5-15 = Low importance (exploration and variety more important)
20-30 = Moderate importance (balanced with other factors)
35-45 = High importance (revenue-driven merchandising)
High Conversion 0.0 to 100.0 points

How often people who view a product end up buying it (conversion rate).

How it works

Conversion rate = (Purchases ÷ Views) × 100%. Products with high conversion rates get higher scores.

When to increase

  • Efficiency focus: Show products that sell when viewed
  • Limited traffic: Make every view count
  • Campaign optimization: Feature products likely to convert
  • Customer satisfaction: High conversion indicates product-market fit

When to decrease

  • Discovery mode: Expose more diverse products
  • New product launch: New items need time to build data
  • Brand awareness: Views and engagement matter beyond sales
  • Niche products: Low traffic items might convert well but lack data

Recommended values

3-8 = Low importance (discovery and exposure prioritized)
10-20 = Moderate importance (balanced approach)
25-35 = High importance (conversion optimization focus)

Note: Requires view and purchase tracking data. New products without history may score lower.

High Engagement 0.0 to 100.0 points

How much customers interact with a product (views, add-to-carts, wishlists).

How it works

Engagement includes: product page views, add-to-cart actions, wishlist additions, shares. Products with more interactions get higher scores.

When to increase

  • Trending products: Surface what customers are interested in right now
  • Social proof: Show products generating buzz
  • Early indicators: Catch rising stars before they become bestsellers
  • Content-driven stores: When browsing is part of the experience

When to decrease

  • Sales-focused: Actual purchases matter more than interest
  • Minimize distractions: Focus on conversion, not browsing
  • Limited engagement data: Not enough tracking in place
  • Established bestsellers: Known quantities vs. trending items

Recommended values

3-7 = Low importance (actions speak louder than interest)
8-15 = Moderate importance (balanced discovery)
20-30 = High importance (trend-following merchandising)

Note: Requires comprehensive tracking of customer interactions.

High Size Availability 0.0 to 100.0 points

How many of a product's size variants are currently in stock.

How it works

Percentage of sizes available = (Sizes in stock ÷ Total sizes) × 100%. Products with more sizes available get higher scores.

When to increase

  • Fashion and apparel: Size availability critical for conversion
  • Customer experience: Reduce frustration from size outs
  • Fulfillment reliability: Prioritize products you can ship
  • Size-variant heavy catalog: Shoes, clothing, accessories

When to decrease

  • Low size variance: Products with few or no size options
  • One-size-fits-all: Not relevant for non-sized products
  • Intentional scarcity: Limited sizes can drive urgency
  • Digital products: No size concept applies

Recommended values

0-3 = Low importance (non-apparel, minimal sizing)
5-10 = Moderate importance (some sizing considerations)
15-25 = High importance (fashion, footwear, sized apparel)

Note: Only relevant for products with multiple size variants.

High Inventory Cover 0.0 to 100.0 points

How many days of inventory you have based on sales velocity.

How it works

Inventory cover = (Current stock ÷ Average daily sales). Products with more days of stock get higher scores.

When to increase

  • Reliable fulfillment: Prioritize products you can keep in stock
  • Long sales cycles: Feature products that will last through campaigns
  • Minimize stockouts: Avoid promoting items that might sell out quickly
  • Inventory health: Favor well-stocked items

When to decrease

  • Limited stock urgency: Create scarcity marketing opportunities
  • Clearance focus: Move slow or overstocked items regardless of cover
  • Pre-orders accepted: Stock levels less critical
  • New products: Don't penalize items still building inventory

Recommended values

5-10 = Low importance (stock levels not a major concern)
15-25 = Moderate importance (balanced inventory consideration)
30-40 = High importance (inventory-driven merchandising)

Note: Requires sales history to calculate. New products may score unpredictably.

When to use

  • Sale promotion: Feature heavily discounted items (30%+ off)
  • Moderate deals: Highlight 10-20% discounts for subtle promotions
  • Full-price emphasis: Boost 0% discount to avoid training customers to wait
  • Clearance urgency: Promote 50%+ discounts aggressively

Example

Boost '30-50% off' range during a summer clearance event

Repetition Avoidance

Reduces the ranking of products that share too many characteristics with products ranked just before them. Creates more diverse, interesting collections.

Product Type Repetition 0.0 to 10.0 (penalty multiplier)

Prevents showing too many of the same product type in a row.

How it works

If two T-shirts appear consecutively, the second one gets a score penalty. Higher values = stronger penalty = more variety.

Recommended values

0 = No variety enforcement
1-3 = Light variety (some clustering allowed)
4-7 = Moderate variety (good mix enforced)
8-10 = Maximum variety (strict anti-repetition)
Price Range Repetition 0.0 to 10.0 (penalty multiplier)

Prevents showing too many products from the same price range consecutively.

How it works

Penalizes products that fall in the same price bracket as the previous product. Creates price diversity in the collection display.

Recommended values

0 = No variety enforcement
1-3 = Light variety (some clustering allowed)
4-7 = Moderate variety (good mix enforced)
8-10 = Maximum variety (strict anti-repetition)
Discount Range Repetition 0.0 to 10.0 (penalty multiplier)

Prevents clustering products with similar discount levels.

How it works

Spreads out sale items vs. full-price items. Avoids showing all discounted products together.

Recommended values

0 = No variety enforcement
1-3 = Light variety (some clustering allowed)
4-7 = Moderate variety (good mix enforced)
8-10 = Maximum variety (strict anti-repetition)
Vendor Repetition 0.0 to 10.0 (penalty multiplier)

Prevents showing too many products from the same brand/vendor consecutively.

How it works

Penalizes products from the same vendor appearing back-to-back. Encourages brand diversity in display.

Recommended values

0 = No variety enforcement
1-3 = Light variety (some clustering allowed)
4-7 = Moderate variety (good mix enforced)
8-10 = Maximum variety (strict anti-repetition)

Collection Status & Refresh

Live

Collection ranking is active and updating automatically. Products are ranked and sorted according to your configuration.

Test

Collection ranking is configured but not published. Use this to preview and refine settings before going live.

Off

Collection ranking is disabled. Products appear in their default Shopify order.

Refresh Frequency 1 to 24 hours

How often the collection should automatically re-rank based on updated product data.

How it works

System checks for changes in product metrics (sales, inventory, views, etc.) and re-calculates ranking scores in the background.

Recommended values

1-2 hours = High-frequency updates (dynamic trending collections)
4-6 hours = Standard refresh (daily changes reflected)
12-24 hours = Low-frequency (stable collections, reduces server load)

Best Practices

Start with Test mode

Preview your ranking before going live to avoid surprises

Make incremental changes

Adjust one factor at a time so you can track what works

Monitor after changes

Check collection performance within 24-48 hours of changes

Update seasonally

Adjust weights and boosts for holidays, sales, and new seasons

Use boosts strategically

Boost multipliers are powerful — use them for promotions, not defaults

Balance your weights

Avoid putting all weight on one factor — diversity leads to better results
